In this oh so interesting journey of discovering my core values, one that kind of surprised me but feels absolutely aligned is humor.
At first glance humor may not seem to be a “value” but really, if it’s not fun then what the hell is the point?
I even noted in one of my recent podcast interviews that the advice I’d give to those navigating the home buying process is: pack a sense of humor.
It’s also true for navigating any other stressful life experience whether that’s divorce, illness, death of a loved one, moving to a new area.
Humor and laughter are lightening. They uplift and release tension.
Being one of my core values, humor is something I notice and appreciate so deeply in my closest relationships.
Lately I cannot stop communicating. In person, by phone and text messages words are literally flying back and forth. Whether I’m reading emails, texts or having conversation I notice myself laughing so deeply and joyfully. And I absolutely love that!
The BEST people are those I can laugh with no matter where we are or what we’re doing. Even and perhaps even more importantly when one of us is navigating something new and equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, humor is an essential ingredient.
I carry a small note with me and it holds the names of those in my absolute closest circle. Without question those people and my connection to them truly, deeply includes laughter and humor on so many levels.
Humor isn’t trivial or inconsequential, it’s an amazingly fun core value on which to focus.
